Feature Staircase in Timber, Glass & Steel
The client desired a mix of structural timber, glass and steel to provide a ‘raw’ look to the interior of this store. PCE designed base building alterations for the L1 void and developed a stair with exposed steel channel stringers providing a profiled recessed within the structure to support the 1.5m wide glass for the main flight. A more conventional concealed structure was designed beneath the timber sections. To allow for future maintenance and potential tread replacement, the stringer design comprised a set of matching saw tooth profiles laser cut from steel plate secured to the main stringer with secret fixings.
