Feature Lightweight Helical Steel Stair
The new 500m2 two-level freestanding Rolex store was believed to be the world’s largest airport duty free watch shop at the time of construction and was designed with a floor to ceiling glass façade providing all round visibility of the boutique. PCE designed a self-supporting helical steel stair with an ultra-lightweight exposed structure, very thin finishes and inlaid stone treads for customer circulation between the 6th and 7th floors. As the stair was built into the existing airport structure, the design had to consider the effect of site tolerances, differential floor movements and the ‘spring’ effect of the stair at both floor levels.
